Modern School/College Organizes Traditional Ghintang Ghisi Procession in Bhaktapur
The event was organized to provide students with an opportunity to experience and understand Bhaktapur’s rich cultural traditions firsthand.
Bhaktapur, September 4, 2026 - Modern School/College organized a traditional Ghintang Ghisi procession in Bhaktapur on Wednesday, September 2, as part of the Sa: Paru celebrations, while dedicating the event to those who lost their lives in the recent devastating floods in Rasuwa district of Nepal.
The Ghintang Ghisi was organized to express heartfelt condolences and pay tribute to all those who lost their lives in the devastating flood, while also standing in solidarity with the affected families and communities.
Ghintang Ghisi is one of the most popular traditional and cultural performances of Bhaktapur, traditionally observed on the day of Gai Jatra and continuing for the following seven days. The cultural procession is an important part of Bhaktapur’s living heritage and is celebrated with traditional music, dance and community participation.
Hundreds of students, faculty members and administrative staff of Modern School/College participated in the procession. The event provided students with an opportunity to participate in Bhaktapur’s rich cultural tradition while conveying a message of remembrance and solidarity with the victims of the Rasuwa disaster.
The procession began from Na: Pukhu and passed through several historic and cultural locations of Bhaktapur, including Ittachhen, Khauma, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Balakhu, Tripurasundari, Chochhen, Tuchhimala, Bholachhen, Mahalaxmi, Nagpokhari, Salla Ganesh, Kwathandau, Suryamadhi, Dattatraya Square, Inacho, Golmadhi, Sukuldhoka, Kwachhen, Taumadhi, Bolachhen, Pottery Square, Nasamana, Bangsagopal and Tekhapukhu, before returning to Na:Pukhu.
According to the Academic Coordinator of Modern School/College, Mrs. Shashi Kaspal Kayastha, the event was organized not only to preserve and promote Bhaktapur’s traditional culture but also to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent Rasuwa flood. She highlighted the importance of involving young people in cultural traditions while encouraging them to develop a sense of empathy, social responsibility and solidarity during times of tragedy.
The procession created a festive yet reflective atmosphere across the historic city as students, teachers and administrative staff participated enthusiastically in the traditional celebration.
